LANSING – State Representative Richard Hammel (D-Mt. Morris Township) has been appointed to the House Appropriations Committee and named Chair of the Appropriations Economic Development Subcommittee.
"Speeding up economic development is critical to moving Michigan in the right direction," said Hammel, who is serving his first term as a legislator. "The only way we can grow the economy is to invest in our people and give them the tools they need to succeed against global competition. I am eager to work with Governor Granholm and all of my colleagues to make that happen."
Hammel also will play vital roles in two other Appropriations subcommittees: He will serve as Vice Chair of General Government and was appointed to serve on Community Health."My first priority is to make sure that all workers can compete for the good-paying jobs that keep our families and communities in Genesee County strong," Hammel said.
"By taking action now, we will ensure that we give our children a stronger Michigan and a brighter future."
