I'm writing to make sure you're aware that starting tomorrow (Tuesday), the northbound lanes of I-475 will be closed
in Genesee County. Traffic will be detoured to westbound I-69 to northbound I-75.
I have included details below to help you plan your travels to accommodate this project. Remember to allow extra time,
and try to be understanding of your fellow motorists. Most of all, slow down where road crews are working. Every year,
workers on our highways are hurt or killed by people who speed through construction zones.
For this project, road crews will reconstruct 1.7 miles from north of Saginaw Road (Exit 13) to the north junction of
I-75 (Exit 125). This project, which includes ramp work, drainage improvements, and median crossover work, is expected
to be done by mid-September.
In addition, ramp improvements are scheduled for the Clio Road/I-475 interchange and the north junction of I-475 at
I-75. On- and off-ramps at the Clio Road interchange (Exit 16) will be closed to accommodate this work. The northbound
I-475 exit ramps to northbound and southbound I-75 also will be closed.
Motorists traveling on Clio Road who wish to access northbound I-475 will follow an alternate route. Traffic will be
detoured from Clio Road to southbound I-475 to westbound I-69 to northbound I-75. Clio Road will have at least one lane
open in each direction throughout this project. Motorists traveling Saginaw Road who wish to access northbound I-475
will follow the same detour route in effect on Clio Road.
No southbound I-475 lanes will be closed; however, a southbound median shoulder may be closed to allow grading,
drainage, and median work. Once the road and ramp reconstruction on northbound I-475 is done, crews will completely
close southbound I-475 and begin work on these lanes.
For updates on this project, visit the list of statewide lane closures on the MDOT Web site at www.michigan.gov/laneclosures.
This $11.1 million project will create safer, smoother roads for Genesee County and advance our economic development.
In the meantime, though, it will require some extra planning and patience from all of us. Thank you for doing your part
to make this a safe, successful project.
Sincerely,
Richard E. Hammel
