LANSING – State Representative Richard E. Hammel (D-Mt. Morris Township) has the most business-friendly voting record among all Democrats in the State House of Representatives, according to a recent voting analysis conducted by the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.
"Michigan has to work harder to be a state that attracts high-quality businesses and helps the ones we have expand and create more jobs," said Hammel, who is Chair of the House Appropriations Economic Development Subcommittee. "We need to keep working to create a tax structure that meets the needs of both residents and businesses. I believe that balancing these goals is key to Michigan's economic growth."
The Chamber cited Hammel's support for key House votes supporting Michigan job providers. Those include Hammel's support of providing incentives to redevelop brownfield properties, protecting the Great Lakes, encouraging new development in the telecommunications market and finding ways to adequately fund the state's transportation systems to connect businesses and the workforce they need to succeed.
Hammel also voted against two tax policy bills that would have put businesses at a disadvantage – legislation that most Democratic legislators supported.
"I am doing everything I can to speed up Genesee County's job creation and business growth," Hammel said. "That means working on bipartisan legislation in both the House and Senate to do what is best for Michigan's economy as quickly as possible."
