LANSING – State Representative Richard E. Hammel (D-Mt. Morris Township) today announced that the Second Marine Aircraft Wing Band will perform tonight at 6 p.m. at the Clio Area Amphitheater and at the State Capitol on Tuesday.
"It's an honor to have the Second Marine Aircraft Wing Band performing here in Michigan," Hammel said. "This band has played at functions all over the world, and is continuing a long and celebrated history of music in our armed forces. It's an absolute privilege to welcome them to our neck of the woods."
The band will perform at 6 p.m. at the Clio Area Amphitheatre, 301 Rogers Lodge Drive in Clio, and from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, on the north lawn of the Capitol in Lansing.
The Second Marine Aircraft Wing Band is from Cherry, North Carolina, and consists of approximately 35 members. Since 1941, the band has performed at more than 50,000 events, including the Kentucky Derby, the Indy 500 and the Football Hall of Fame. Every year, the band performs at the Memorial Day parade in Dearborn. The band also has performed for the Queen of Denmark and Prince Edward of Great Britain.
"It's great to see quality attractions like this coming to the Clio area," Hammel said. "The Clio Amphitheater has done a lot to bring family-friendly events to our community, and this free event is the latest in that tradition."
