LANSING – State Representative Richard E. Hammel (D-Mt. Morris Township) today announced that he has decided to cancel his coffee hours until further notice, in order to concentrate on the budget crisis that is currently affecting the state. Hammel regularly holds monthly coffee hours on the third Friday of the month in order to meet with residents and listen to their concerns.
"Unfortunately, with more than a billion dollar hole in the state budget, we need all hands on deck to resolve this crisis," Hammel said. "Althought I can't commit to any specific coffee hour dates, I want residents to know that I am always available to assist them. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, issues or concerns."
As Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee and Chair of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Hammel has played a key role in using federal stimulus dollars in order to create jobs and promote energy efficiency programs in communities throughout Genesee County. He has also pushed expansion of the No Worker Left Behind program to help workers transition into good-paying jobs in emerging industries.
